Redefining Success on My Own Terms
From engineering multimillion-dollar projects to building financial freedom and holistic wellness.
From engineering multimillion-dollar projects to building financial freedom and holistic wellness.
In 2022, I made one of the boldest decisions of my life — I walked away from a 17-year career in mechanical engineering and design to create a life rooted in freedom, purpose, and intention.
For nearly two decades, I worked for the largest mechanical contractor on the West Coast, contributing to the design and development of major large-scale projects. Some of the projects I had the privilege to work on included LA Live in downtown Los Angeles, The MLK Jr. Behavioral Health Center, Metropolis Residences/Indigo Hotel, the Mandarin Oriental in Honolulu, and the Los Angeles Rams SoFi Stadium.
(Just to name a few)
The work was challenging, rewarding, and impactful.
But over time, I found myself facing something many women encounter but few openly talk about: gender pay inequality. Despite raising concerns and advocating for change, the issue remained unresolved.
Eventually, it became clear that staying would require compromising my values.
After experiencing burnout and anxiety, I took a six-month leave of absence to focus on my mental health and healing. With the guidance of a therapist, I made the decision to walk away from a toxic work environment and choose a path that better aligned with my well-being and future.
I was fortunate to have an option that many people don’t — company stock from an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) that I had accumulated during my career. That financial foundation allowed me to step away from corporate life at 42 years old.
But retirement wasn’t the end of my journey. It was the beginning of a new one.
Because I already understood the power of money and investing, I knew that capital could be more than a safety net. With the right strategy, discipline, and patience, it could continue to grow and create opportunities. I began focusing more intentionally on long-term investing and learning how to use money to generate more money through strategic investing and trading.
Around the same time, another important part of my life was unfolding — my personal health journey.
A couple years earlier, I had committed to transforming my health and fitness. Through discipline, consistency, and intentional habits, I achieved my fitness goals and maintained them for years, even through the challenges of the COVID shutdown. That experience changed my life and eventually led me to become a personal trainer, helping others take control of their health and build confidence through fitness.
But as I continued to grow personally and financially, I started to notice something powerful:
the same principles that build strong bodies also build strong financial habits.
Discipline
Consistent habits
Informed decisions
Long-term thinking
It’s a marathon, not a sprint.
If you can achieve transformation in one area of life, you can achieve it in another.
That realization led me to shift my focus toward financial education and create
Financial Fitness with Danni — a platform focused on the connection between physical wellness, financial education, and intentional living, helping people build discipline in their health, confidence in their finances, and freedom in their lives.
The truth is, most people grow up learning how to work for money, but not how money works. We’re taught the 9-to-5 path, but rarely taught how to invest, build assets, or create financial options.
I want to change that.
Today my mission is simple: to help people understand the connection between health/wellness, discipline, and financial empowerment. Because the habits that strengthen your body can also strengthen your finances — and both are essential to living a life of freedom and intention.
Health is wealth, and wealth is freedom.
